New Scotty Tricks!

We took the fam to an ASU vs. Utah gymnastics meet this last friday--it was great night! I have a confession to make, however: i let my mom pick scotty's outfit. For those of you not familiar with my family history, attending BYU was a sign of my rebellion; my parents have degrees from Utah, USU, and Weber State. I grew up in a USU aggies sweatshirt--it was "Anywhere but BYU."

See, Scotty looks so cute...

but he's actually been contaminated!

I told Eric he was wearing it so he could spit all over it (which of course he did...) We both have to admit that it is pretty cute despite the random lettering on the front.

This has been a big week for Scotty--he's had the strength to do lots of things before but this week he finally decided that it would be fun to get a little mobile...

First he sits...

...and then he rolls!

Well, that about sums it up for us. I love knowing what's going on with all of you! let me know if you have a blog i don't know about, and feel free to shoot me an email with updates :o)

A Family Update

Well, I think we're officially settled here in Phoenix! (it only took what, a month and a half?) Eric is liking his internship, really liking his coworkers, and loving the money (especially the overtime!) Just this past week was the earnings release for Freeport-McMoran, a fortune 150 company that just merged and was a first time audit for EY, so that was a good experience for Eric and lots of nice overtime...

It's been a little strange to be back in the ward I grew up in and feel like an adult--sometimes R.S. feels like I'm hanging out with my mom's friends instead of my peers! But I'm coming into my own i think, and scotty being a better sleeper makes church reasonable peaceful for a change! Eric and I spoke in church this last week on the hardest topic I've ever been given: Jesus Christ. At least there was no shortage of material! We received lots of positive comments so we must not have said anything blasphemous ;o) Eric has been called to be an Elder's Quorum instructor, and I have a hodge-podge of callings. They wanted to put me in YW but it's tough for just a semester, so they called me to be the choir accompaniest. and the junior primary pianist. and the primary co-chorister. WOW! It's nice to have music callings again though.

In other news, I found yet another reason this past week to be glad that i chose to nurse scotty instead of formula feed (besides the convenience, bonding, and $$): he's allergic to formula! Since we started him on solids a month ago, I decided it would be easier to make his cereal with formula. Within five minutes he had red marks on his face surrounding his mouth--total allergic reaction! So we tried a lactose-free formula, and it seemed like that was okay. But the second time i made cereal with lactose-free, he got red spots on his face again! and up his arms and hands (where he'd 'helped' me feed him...)! Next on the list is soy, which costs more but might be ok. My last resort is hypoallergenic, which is $26 for 11.5 oz.....YIKES!!! He's also gotten this reaction once after my dad gave him a few bites of vanilla ice cream. (every time i turn around my dad is feeding him random things! i love you daddy, you crack me up!) Anyone have any clue what would be causing this reaction?

Five Months Strong!

Well he's growing up, despite my requests...kidding, it is so fun to watch him grow and learn new tricks! One of my favorites is that everytime he sees me (or wants me! aka is hungry...) he says "Mmmm-ba, Mmm-ba" to call me!

Enjoy new pictures.

A Trip to the Zoo!

To celebrate Scotty's five-month mark (and enjoy the wonderful 65 degree sunshine!), we went to the Phoenix Zoo! While he spent more time looking at the people and the ground than the animals, Eric and I really enjoyed getting out and had a great time watching the elephants throw rocks around...we especially liked the new monkey habitat, where you actually walk into an enclosure with trees full of squirrel monkeys--they leap from tree to tree over your head, scamper by your feet, and even walked across ropes with their babies on their backs! So adorable.

Scotty's favorite animals were the macaw and the tiger...whenever they made noise he sang right back!

Despite the recent tiger mauling that occurred in a zoo with an enclosure a lot like this one, we just couldn't stay away--and got quite a show! After lounging on a rock for awhile, he decided it was food time and started getting antsy. He scraped his claws on a trunk and strutted his stuff for a bit:

Then he sat calmly at the base of this tree, contemplating a climb. I expected him to clamor his way up to the first branch, which is at least 8 feet up...

Made it look easy--from sitting to branch in the blink of an eye--wouldn't want him to jump up at me! After climbing all the way to the top branches of the tree (which fortunately was at the center of the enclosure and nowhere near the outside fence) he decided it was time to come back down:

From there he went to the bottom ring of the enclosure, right below the fence, and started growling for dinner...

Impressive, huh?
Scotty loved it!

He was so happy and well-behaved the entire time, even if it did wear him out...

In other news, Scotty and I have been sleep-training since we got to Phoenix and he is now a champion sleeper and loves his naps! I never thought this would happen...must be brilliant parenting ;o) He only cries a little when I put him down, and it's a "please mama, just give me my pacifier and leave so i can go to sleep!" In less than five minutes he's completely crashed and I often don't hear a peep all night. What a perfect baby! And adorable--what more could I ask for?

Scotty is a total foodie...

So I'll have a new slideshow of pictures to post soon now that Scotty is 5 months old, but i thought i'd add a quick update...

Scotty is growing great--close to 15 pounds and super happy. All of his eating hasn't been so good for me, however--despite my best efforts and lots of ice cream, i'm currently weighing in at 99 pounds. including my jeans and sometimes my shoes...*so* we decided to start solid foods a few weeks ago. I've never seen a baby so into food! Not only does he eat the whole thing and try to lick the bowl, he gets upset with me if I make him wait too long between bites! Like having a miniature teenager, I have to shovel straight into the mouth...

So far he's eaten rice cereal and oatmeal, and he loves to get tastes of everything. Misty even gave him a lemon slic to suck on the other day--and he loved it! No adorable bitter face--he came back for more. The only thing he doesn't like is celery--he'll suck on it but his face "sure mom--i know this isn't really edible."

Hopefully we can catch a picture of the celery face before he grows out of it!
