Scotty Says

I love having a little buddy to hang out with. While he knows how to push my buttons, he also recognizes when he's driving me nuts and usually says something funny to make me want to hug him.

Some of my recent favorites.

While watching the Olympics: "Mama look! They run and jump into the spaceship! Buzz Lightyear!" And he makes a good point, the bobsleds do resemble space ships. As a friend pointed out, the US sled in particular looks like the batmobile. We'll see if he'll sing the batman song for it tonight.

While watching Lady and the Tramp I pointed to Jock and said, "that's a Scotty dog." Scotty looked at me like I was insane and said, "no mama. That's a PAPA dog." Congratulations, dad, you officially resemble a Scottish terrier!

Winter in Phoenix

Tired of winter? You can always come visit.
The closest we get to winter weather is singing the snowman song.

Stephen's Wedding

A month ago we took a quick trip to Utah for Eric's brother's wedding. Eric's busy season had already started so he flew in for a total of 20 hours, including commuting to and from the airport. Scotty and I drove up with my wonderful mama who drove the whole way and let me sleep in a dramamine-induced haze.

We had a whirlwind few days of family and friends and feel so blessed to have seen so many. Scotty especially loved seeing his Grammy (my grandma), Grandma, Pita (sorry, Charlie, we're not sure where he came up with that name but it's stuck!), and his cousins.

Unfortunately my camera battery died at the beginning of the trip and I just didn't think to get it out most of the time, so I have no pictures of Scotty with anyone other than his cousins. I didn't even get a picture of the bride and groom! Or myself as a bridesmaid, or any type of family picture...you get the idea.

Thanks to all the friends and family who took such good care of us while we were there! Scotty talked about Marian for weeks after the trip and even had the nursery leaders in our old ward convinced that he had a baby sister named Mer...

We are delighted to welcome Emily to the family and appreciate her sweetness and willingness to brave our intensely-competitive board games. Nice work, Stephen.

We also have a new favorite funny picture. Thanks for the face, kid.

Puerto Peñasco

Last week my brother and his family were in town. Eric unfortunately had to work, but the rest of us headed down to Mexico for four days of food, sand, seashells, and español. I was a little hesitant for two reasons: a 5 hour drive over bumpy roads and a son who hates sand.

Remember the last time we took him to the beach?

I was hoping for at least some tolerance of grit. He still did a fair amount of this:(after all, he didn't want to share his papa with cousins!)

But he did a fair amount of this too:

He loved to play with his cousin Adien, who made this awesome sand dragon with Nana.

Speaking of Nana, check out this hot beach babe!

My mom did get a picture of my baby bump in a wetsuit....most attractive, I assure you. Not sure I'll be posting THAT one...

He was also adored by his cousin Max.

He even was helpful and despite throwing up all over everything the first time I put him to bed, we all had a great vacation. I was even impressed by how much spanish I remembered from 10th grade...That's my little beach boy. Don't know that I've ever been so proud.

Our family is growing!

It's true, Larsenland is growing a new member to fill the extra space in our new house. I'm due mid-August (yes, I know, I swore I would never have another August baby!) and we find out in 6 weeks whether Baby Beluga is a boy or a girl.

Baby Beluga--that's a funny name for an adored child. Scotty was Peanut because we first saw him through ultrasound at 9 weeks and that's exactly what he resembled. Yesterday I was able to hear the heartbeat of this little one for the first time, and the batteries on the doppler were dying so it kept making squeaking and chirping noises. The doctor assured us that it was the machine and not our child chirping at us, but Scotty is pretty convinced Mommy is having a baby dolphin for him to play with! Obviously, he's thrilled.

He does exhibit some motherly instincts, however. Earlier today I saw him loving hug a toy and place it carefully on his pillow, wrapped in his favorite blankets. "More songs?" he asked the toy, and proceeded to sing his current top favorites, the "cow song" (which is actually more about a rooster) and the "Happy Sa-me-me" song from primary that names all the members of his family. He even loving told his toy to stay in bed and he would come back to check in 5 minutes.

I assumed he was mothering one of his bazillion stuffed animals, or even his potty training doll that's an actual baby. Of course, he still has his priorities.

Night night, police car. Sweet dreams.
